The Globe and Mail Foundation announces inaugural Executive Director

Laura Lavie has been appointed as The Globe and Mail Foundation’s first executive director. Lavie will commence her role on September 9, 2025.
Reporting to the Foundation’s Chair of the Board, Phillip Crawley, Lavie will be responsible for the overall strategic, operational, and financial management of The Globe and Mail Foundation.
“We are delighted to have Laura joining the Foundation”, Crawley commented. “With 20 years of experience within the non-profit sector, focused primarily on fundraising and donor and volunteer engagement, she brings the strong management expertise and knowledge of best practices that will set the Foundation on a path for success.”
Crawley added: “Our Board members are looking forward to working with Laura to generate funding to support ethical standards and excellence in journalism, and to help strengthen public trust in media.”
Currently serving as Head of Philanthropy at The Walrus, Lavie heads up the fundraising team, working closely with the Executive Director, the Board, and other leadership volunteers.
Previously, Lavie held fundraising management roles at Toronto’s Aga Khan Museum, Luminato, Child Development Institute, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Toronto and the Michael Garron Hospital Foundation.

The Globe and Mail Foundation is a newly established charity dedicated to promoting strong ethical standards and excellence in the field of journalism, helping to strengthen public trust in media, and deepening the Canadian public’s knowledge and understanding of pressing issues of the day.
