The Globe and Mail announces Designing Canada, in partnership with EQ3

Featuring the best residential architecture, interiors and houseware products of the year

October 17, 2019

The Globe and Mail, in partnership with EQ3, is launching Designing Canada, a new editorial feature celebrating the best in Canadian residential architecture, interiors and houseware products for 2019. The formal announcement will be in the Oct. 19 issue of The Globe and Mail.

“The Globe has always been a strong voice for design in Canada and readers are increasingly looking to our coverage for trends and innovations in the country’s design industry,” says Maryam Siddiqi, Lifestyle Editor at The Globe and Mail. “With Designing Canada, we’ll showcase the best in Canadian design and celebrate what makes our aesthetic distinctive from a consumer perspective.”

“The calibre of design talent in this country is truly remarkable,” says Mark Letain, President of home furnishings retailer EQ3. “As a company that has built its success on Canadian design, we want to support and celebrate the people behind the most exciting projects coast-to-coast.”

A jury composed of influential members from the country’s design community will nominate projects they think represent the best in Canadian design and were completed in 2019. The jury includes: DesignTO’s artistic director, Deborah Wang; Halifax-based architect Omar Gandhi; IDS Vancouver director, Jody Phillips; EQ3’s senior director of brand development, Nils Vik; and The Globe’s architecture critic, Alex Bozikovic. In addition, students have been invited to pitch work for recognition as emerging designers to watch.

The Globe’s editorial staff will decide the top three projects in each category. These will be profiled in the January 11, 2020 edition of Pursuits, with additional events planned for the Interior Design Show and DesignTO Festival. Designing Canada is a partnership with Winnipeg-based furniture and home goods designer and retailer EQ3. For more information, visit tgam.ca/designingcanada.
