The Globe and Mail Wins Gold as 2024 Cannes Lions Representative of the Year
Canada recognized as the Cannes Lions Representative of the Year for its dedication to championing creativity and showcasing Canadian talent on the global stage
TORONTO, ON - OCTOBER 25, 2024 - The Globe and Mail, the official Canadian representative for the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, is thrilled to announce that Canada has won the Gold award as the 2024 Andrea Suez Cannes Lions Representative of the Year. This prestigious award recognizes the exceptional efforts of representatives around the world who embody the spirit of Cannes Lions and demonstrate outstanding dedication to championing creativity in their local markets.
The award was presented during the annual Cannes Lions Representatives Meeting, which took place last week in London, UK. Representatives from around the world gathered to celebrate the contributions of global teams who bring the Cannes Lions brand and its values to life in their respective markets.
“This recognition is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our team at The Globe and Mail, the Canadian Cannes Lions Advisory Board, and our amazing partners and sponsors” said Marcin Zerek, Head of Trade Marketing at The Globe and Mail. “Our mission has always been to champion Canadian creativity and talent on the world stage. Winning this award underscores our commitment to celebrating and elevating Canada’s outstanding creative community, and we’re inspired to continue amplifying the values that Cannes Lions has fostered for over 70 years.”
The Canadian Cannes Lions Advisory Board, comprised of senior leaders from the media, creative, and marketing sectors, plays a vital role in supporting the Cannes Lions mission in Canada. Together with The Globe and Mail, the Board provides strategic guidance and works to bring visibility to Canadian talent and campaigns both domestically and internationally.
As part of its role as the Canadian representative, The Globe and Mail organizes year-round programs designed to inspire and connect the creative community, including the Young Lions competitions, thought leadership initiatives, trend reports, and an Après Cannes event taking place this year on November 13, 2024. Through these efforts, The Globe and Mail ensures that Canadian creativity is celebrated, recognized, and empowered to make an impact on a global scale.
The award for Representative of the Year is presented in three tiers: Gold, Silver, and Bronze. Canada took home the Gold, with Brazil awarded Silver and Germany awarded Bronze. “A huge congratulations to our friends in Brazil and Germany for their Silver and Bronze awards,” Zerek added. “It’s truly inspiring to be part of such a passionate global network that believes in the power of creativity to shape the future.”
