Globe and Mail joins Google News Showcase

June 24, 2021

The Globe and Mail is one of the first Canadian publishers to sign an agreement with Google News Showcase, a product and licensing program that provides Google users free access to select Globe content through Google News and Discover.

“This partnership will bring the value of The Globe’s award-winning journalism to readers who might not usually access our content,” says Phillip Crawley, Publisher and CEO of The Globe and Mail. “This licensing deal provides trustworthy, high-quality content to Google Showcase readers and in doing so will accelerate our subscription efforts and continued overall digital business transformation.”

Through the deal, Google users will be able to access stories chosen by Globe editorial staff including select content that is available only to subscribers. The Google News Showcase is anticipated to go live to Canadians in the near future.

The other publishers launching in the Google News Showcase, which represent regional and local news across the country in both languages are: Black Press, FP Newspapers, Glacier Media, Métro Média, Narcity Media, Saltwire Networks and Village Media.
